The toll money is automatically deducted from the user’s linked wallet or bank account if a car passes through a lane that supports the FASTAg RFID reader.
In the beginning, one had to visit a nearby POS (point-of-sale) booth to apply for a new FASTag. Toll plazas typically have a setup consisting of small booths for this purpose. At the FASTag registration centers, long lines have been seen. However, you can now apply for a FASTag via the internet. This will save you the time and effort of going to a registration center and standing in long lines. If you haven’t already applied for a FASTag, now is a good time to do so. It will not only save you time but also money. For example, if your car does not have a FASTag sticker, you will be charged more than the real toll fare.

There is also the possibility of applying for a FASTag sticker via online bank portals. This service is currently available from a number of banks, including SBI, Axis Bank, HDFC, ICICI Bank, and others. Let’s take a look at how to apply for a FASTag using both of the aforementioned online platforms:
1st step: If you want to apply for a FASTag sticker using a UPI app like Paytm, open the app on your phone and search for the keyword “FASTag.”
Step 2: To begin the process, select the ‘Buy FASTag’ option.
Step 3: Enter the registration number of the car for which you want to buy a FASTag sticker.
Step 4: Complete the payment process by filling out the delivery address section.
Step 5: Once the payment is received, the order will be sent to the address provided.
Step 6: Go to Paytm’s “My Order” section to track your shipping.
If you want to link your FASTag to your bank account rather than Paytm or another digital app, follow these steps:
Step 1: Go to the bank’s website and apply for the FASTag sticker there. This option will be available only to approved banks.
Step 2: Type ‘FASTag’ into the search box on the bank’s home page.
Step 3: To register for a new sticker, pick the ‘Apply FASTag’ option.
Step 4: Enter your mobile phone number to receive an OTP for the next step.
Step 5: Go to the bank’s website and enter the OTP.
Step 6: On the following page, you will be prompted to upload the requested documents. A soft copy of the same should be uploaded.
Step 7: Proofread the papers before submitting them.
Step 8: Make a payment to buy the sticker.
