Bondi shooter had Hyderabad roots, family cut ties after interfaith marriage: Reports
One of the shooters involved in the deadly Bondi Beach attack in Sydney, in which 15 civilians were killed, had family connections in Hyderabad, India, who had cut off contact with him years ago, according to media reports.
Relatives of Sajid Akram, one of the attackers, told Indian media outlets that the family severed ties with him after he married a Christian woman following his move to Australia in 1998. Family members based in the Old City area of Hyderabad said they had no contact with him or his immediate family for several years.
Reports from The Print and The News Minute quoted relatives and sources as saying the estrangement was due to his interfaith marriage. Sajid Akram and his son, Naveed Akram, were identified as the attackers who targeted a Jewish congregation at Bondi Beach on Sunday, resulting in the deaths of 15 civilians.
